Dr Paul Lam, a retired family physician in Sydney, Australia, is a world leader in the field of tai chi for health improvement.
He started learning tai chi 1975 from his late father-in-law, Mr Lum, a close student of the great grandson of Yang style creator, Yang Shou-zhong.
Since the1980, he has been trained with Professor Men Hui Feng and his wife Professor Kan Gui Xiang regularly and personally for over 10 years. Professor Men was the director of Wushu Dept, Beijing University of Sport, the creator of the Combined 42, combined 48 and Sun Style 73 Forms. Professor Kan composed the Chen style 36 Forms, 56 Forms and 36 Sword Forms. They were two of the world’s most prominent Tai Chi leaders.
Dr Lam won one gold and two silver medals, and the highest aggregated individual scores of all competitors at the Third International Tai Chi Competition in 1993 in Beijing, China.
By late 1990 He has dedicated himself to Tai Chi for Health. He worked with team of medical and tai chi experts to create a series of 12 Tai Chi for Health programs over 20 years. He integrated his western medical training as a family physician and lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Australia, traditional Chinese medical acupuncture practice, and tai chi knowledge to modernise tai chi. His Tai Chi for Health programs are supported by governmental bodies including the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC.gov), National Council on Aging (NCOA.org) and arthritis foundations of America, UK, Australia and Singapore.
Working with his colleagues he founded the Tai Chi for Health Institute – a non-profit educational institute to empower people to better health and wellness. By 2023, the Institute has trained over 50,000 certified instructors, and empower millions of people around the world for better health and harmony.
In Sept 2023, he was invited by the Science of Tai Chi and Qigong conference by Harvard University to present his “Worldwide Accreditation”.
Tai Chi for Health programs are easy and enjoyable to learn, bringing many health benefits to learners safely and quickly. Over 30 medical studies have shown these programs are safe and effective to improve health.
Dr Lam has authored books, online lessons and instructional DVDs to help make learning tai chi easily, more enjoyable and bring more health benefits quickly.
