I am a passionate practitioner, performer and professional teacher of Tai Chi, Qigong and Chinese Martial Arts with over 40 years training experience. After moving to, and calling the UK home since 1990, I set up both the Deyin Taijiquan Institute (GB) and British Health Qigong Association with the help and support of my husband, and have since worked tirelessly to raise the awareness of both physical and mental well-being through the arts of Tai Chi and Qigong. In over 30 years of teaching, I’ve trained over 20,000 British and European students and teachers from all walks of life. I’ve produced several DVD’s for the forms I teach, in order to allow those who are unable to attend classes to experience the benefits of these sports; moreover, I have over 8,000 subscribers on YouTube where I regularly post videos helping people to enjoy Tai Chi and Qigong.
Previously, I have led students in many large-scale performances including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at RAF Gosford, the London Lord Mayor Parade, the countdown Qigong performance to the London Olympics, the 3 live performances at Pride Park Stadium the English Football League Championships and Telford 50th Anniversary Celebration. In 2014, I was invited to teach at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, comprised of international fitness and health experts. In 2016, I was invited to teach Tai Chi and Qigong to the current President of Ireland, His Excellency President Higgins and the First Lady at the Presidential Palace. In 2018, I successfully organized and hosted the European Health Qigong Games and Science Forum in the UK, which attracted Qigong enthusiasts from all over the world, which brought some of the foremost Qigong teachers and academics to Britain.
I was born in a family of martial arts in Beijing. My great-grandfather, Li Yulin, was a disciple of the Grandmaster Sun Lutang, who originated Sun Style Tai Chi; having been awarded ‘Wulin Baijie’ (One of the Hundred National Treasures), the 9th (highest) rank of Chinese Martial Arts, the Most Influential Martial Arts Figure in the past 30 years and other honors, my father Li Deyin is one of the foremost martial artists of all time, alongside my great-uncle Li Tianji, the creator of the contemporary Tai Chi syllabus in China. Li Deyin and Li Tianji created the Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan and Simplified 24 Step Taijiquan respectively, both of which have become most popular forms of exercises with millions of followers around the world. My grandfather Li Tianchi used Tai Chi & Qigong as a complimentary therapy at Harbin University Hospital for patient’s rehabilitation.
I was brought up with the passion for Chinese Martial Arts and it’s incredible healing powers. I went to study Psychology at Beijing Normal University as I was always fascinated by the link between mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing and wanted to help people through the arts of movements. My study took me to the UK, where I continued study both in English and Business Studies. Through my student life in the UK, it became clear to me that regardless of the cultural background, nationality and color of the skin, there is more to unite people than that divide us – one of them is the desire for good physical and mental wellbeing. After my graduation at Birmingham City University, I decided to open my school of Tai Chi & Qigong with the help and support of my family and began a life time devotion to improve the quality of people’s life.
